Save CPU Costs by Tuning Your SQL
Bonnie Baker, Bonnie Baker Corporation
Audience Focus: DB2 for z/OS
The economy is suffering; budgets are being cut; reducing costs is imperative. CPU savings directly translate to cost savings. This seminar will focus on ways to tune SQL to get better performance by reducing Get Pages, Read I/Os, and Sort overhead. Topics include:
- Designing today's indexes to match your SQL
- Alternative SQL to get the same answer back faster
- Unusual solutions to very common problems
Optimising DB2 System Performance Using DB2 Statistics Trace
John Campbell, IBM DB2 for z/OS Development and Florence Dubois, IBM
Audience Focus: DB2 for z/OS
This seminar will focus on the key areas of system performance--dataset activity, buffer pool and GBP, lock/latch contention, system address space CPU, EDM pool, RID pool, DBM1 virtual and real storage. Information will be provided on key performance indicators to be monitored and the rules of thumb to be applied in each area. Information will be provided on what more detailed tracing and analysis is required. Tuning advice will be provided for common problems.
DB2 for LUW Support: Deep Dive into DB2 LUW Problem Determination and Troubleshooting
Pavel Sustr, IBM Toronto Lab
Audience Focus: DB2 for Linux, UNIX, Windows
Learn how to identify and resolve problems such as database hangs, locking problems, crashes and optimizer/performance problems. DB2 V9 also provides various problem determination facilities and tools such as DB2PD. Knowing how and when to use these tools is critical in resolving problems quickly. Topics covered include: Performance; Optimizer; FODC; Hangs; Locking/Latching; and Crashes/Traps. This seminar will provide information on tools and techniques that can be used to identify performance problems caused by resource bottlenecks, locking and poor query access plans. Attendees will be able to characterize a problem in order to expedite resolution, learn how and what data to collect during intermittent hangs as well as address slow-downs and other problems, thereby decreasing problem resolution time. Attendees will better understand DB2 Support’s methodology in troubleshooting DB2 problems.
